Why is the Death Note movie so unlike the original manga and anime?

Yes, I thought the movie was dreadful. The acting was horrible, the plot was completely off... it was all very amateur. In the anime, L's death scene almost reduced me to tears. In the movie it made me laugh. It's better to stick with the anime.
