If countries united somehow, couldnt we stop the flow of (conflict) blood diamonds?

anyone that's seen the film and recent doentary on sky about the history and atrocities behind the movie 'blood diamonds' must also be sickened by the way innocent civilians have been murdered and mutilated over the discovery of diamonds. this has been rife since the early 1990's but only from making this fillm which was brilliant i have to say, that this is really coming to the world's attention. does anyone else agree that is now time to stamp out the contraflow of conflict diamonds along with these RUF rebels?
